My take: It's one of the few chinese movies I actually liked. Very very enjoyable. Nothing thought-provoking like Wong Kar-Wai's films but sufficiently entertaining and light-hearted. The car racing scenes were pretty well-shot, from the viewpoint of an amateur like me and the style followed quite closely to that of the anime series. Jay Chou makes a very convincing Takumi - even before watching the movie, from when I knew he was slated to play the main character, my first thought was "how apt!" and it really it. They both have that aloof, lazy style about them, so I'd think it's pretty effortless for Jay Chou to play the part effectively.
